Small clay pot with calcined (burnt) remants of bone, Iron Age 1000 - 100 B.C.

Ritual vessels and remnants of animal bones

Evidence of religious mountain-top animal sacrifice

This small, rounded clay vessel was excavated on Picberg along with a handful of calcined bone remnants from animal sacrifices (cow, sheep). This find was probably in connection with a depositing ritual after a sacrificial ceremony carried out on a mountain top. The discovery site and altitude point towards an Iron Age fire sacrifice site.
